Choosing subjects that align with your future goals and passions is an important milestone for each grade 9 learner.
Careful consideration must be given to this important decision. Many degrees have prerequisites when registering with them and therefore subject choices must be carefully considered as they have a direct impact on their future career choices.
Although we direct you to use a prescribed textbook, any CAPS approved textbook will suffice. Use the annual planner and the topics to guide you.
Moore House Academy will mark all grade 10 and 11 final exams. We will moderate all other assessments in these years. Moore House Academy will mark all tasks and tests for grade 12 learners.
All learners will submit their tasks and assessments on a user-friendly online portal. Marked scripts will be available for revision.
Take your time
Start thinking about subject choices well ahead of the deadline the school sets in order to gather important information, opinions and advice.
Focus on self-awareness
Look at the three following points to help direct your self awareness:
Link subject choices to tertiary study paths and career paths.
Admission to tertiary training institutions and to specific career paths can be highly dependent on your choice of subjects.
The subject choice process as being the start of a further process of informed decision-making involving career choice and appropriate tertiary study paths. The measures are geared towards assisting students in ‘taking ownership’ of decisions that are fundamental to their future success.
All subjects are compulsory.
English Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language and Life Orientation. They must choose between Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy.
When a choice of Physical Science or Information Technology is made, the learner must choose Mathematics. Any learner who takes Dramatic Arts must work with a qualified drama teacher. This must be emailed to info@moorehouse.co.za
Hospitality and Consumer Studies PAT components require an approved assessor, this is an additional cost for the parent’s account.
Information Technology will be completed through our partner company SSIR and as such is charged at an additional cost.
The remaining three subjects are selected from the above-listed subjects. Grade 8 and 9 learners must do all their subjects. A * subject has additional components and pricing attached to them; kindly contact us at info@moorehouse.co.za to understand the subject setup. Feel free to contact us to discuss the various subject choices.
Snapplify and Book Bound is our preferred textbook supplier. We recommend ordering well before the December rush. A courier fee will be charged for delivery. The teacher’s guide is required if learning is done primarily as a pure homeschooler.
These links will direct you to an external service provider and all costs incurred are from the textbook provider.
