To upgrade your matric results, you register for MATRIC UPGRADE. Once you have improved the subjects you want to upgrade, you apply to SACAI to combine your two sets of matric results.
Umalusi will then issue you a single, final Matric Certificate, with only your best results showing on that new Matric Certificate.
You can even use the matric upgrade to upgrade your results if you failed matric. So you can upgrade from a fail to a pass in matric.
You may only choose one of the following options if you have completed one sitting for the NSC since 2014.
MATRIC UPGRADE (SBA): If you choose to include the SBA, you will register for this option, which involves completing all the tasks, tests, projects, and exams for the subjects you’ve registered. We recommend this option as it helps you stay focused and consistently work on your coursework throughout the year.
MATRIC UPGRADE (No SBA): If you prefer to take the entire year to study and improve your results without the ongoing SBA tasks, you can register for this option.

The NSC (National Senior Certificate) is a qualification obtained after completing Grade 12 in South Africa, aligned with the CAPS (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement) curriculum. It is the most common matriculation certificate, recognized by universities and colleges. Moore House Academy follows the NSC curriculum under SACAI’s (South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute) guidelines.
Choosing the right subjects depends on the learner’s interests, strengths, and future career goals. Learners must select a minimum of seven subjects: four compulsory (English, a second official language, Life Orientation, and Mathematics/Mathematical Literacy) and three elective subjects from available options. It’s important to consider what subjects are required for tertiary education pathways.
Yes, subject changes are possible within specific timeframes. For Grades 10-11, changes must be made before June 30. An administrative fee of R350 applies, and learners are responsible for catching up on any missed work. Subject changes for Grade 12 are not allowed as per SACAI’s regulations.
Yes, learners may take additional subjects, but this is only recommended if they can handle the extra workload. Parents and learners are responsible for covering any additional costs and ensuring that all curriculum work is completed. Additional subjects cannot be added in Grade 12.
If a learner wishes to take a subject from another institution, it must be registered with the assessment body managing the majority of their subjects (usually SACAI for Moore House Academy learners). Moore House Academy will require the marks for the portfolio of evidence from the external institution, and vice versa.
Textbooks are not included in Moore House Academy’s fees. Parents may purchase digital or hard copy versions separately. It is essential to ensure that the textbooks align with the CAPS-aligned curriculum for each subject.
All assessments, including tasks, tests, and exams, must be completed according to CAPS guidelines and SACAI requirements. Prelim and final examinations for Grade 12 will be invigilated, and all subject assessments must be submitted on time.
